About

After completing a degree in Russian language and civilization at INALCO, the author of this website worked for nearly 15 years as an analyst and strategic monitor. She notably served as coordinator and lead writer of a monitoring brief devoted to the Russian strategic debate within a well-known French think tank.

Updated regularly throughout the month (with 15-20 summaries), the website offers a selection of summaries designed to extract the strategic essence of articles drawn from open Russian sources. Links to the full original articles are provided. The main criteria for selecting the articles summarized include the reputation of the source (national media, established think tanks, etc.), the profile of the author (researcher, media expert, or individual close to the authorities), as well as the strategic nature of the topic addressed.

The objective is to provide a necessarily partial overview of the perceptions and reflections of Russian intellectuals and para-official actors on major strategic issues. Given the heavy restrictions on freedom of expression in Russia, the ideas expressed in the selected articles can be considered at minimum as tolerated by the Kremlin — which is precisely what makes them valuable. The analyses are not selected for their relevance, but because they reflect an atmosphere, and at times a worldview, that may be useful for researchers, decision-makers, and other audiences concerned with contemporary Russia and the fate of Ukraine.

This monitoring effort will occasionally be supplemented by Russian-language sources based abroad, which will be indicated as such.

The summaries provided do not imply any endorsement of the positions expressed by the authors cited, nor any indulgence toward the war of aggression waged against Ukraine.
