[Editor’s note: Context — In early October, Donald Trump mentioned the possibility of selling Tomahawk missiles to European countries. This long-range cruise missile would significantly strengthen Ukraine’s ability to strike deep into Russian territory.]

Colonel Mikhail Khodarenok believes that, faced with the threat of Tomahawk missile strikes launched from Ukraine against strategic Russian targets, Moscow could consider two scenarios:

  1. A massive conventional retaliation aimed at the Ukrainian political-military command;
  2. High-altitude nuclear demonstration explosions over oceanic or sparsely populated areas — possibly over the Black Sea to frighten Ukrainians — and subsequently off the coast of the United Kingdom, in the North Sea, or above the city of Rzeszów in Poland, which the author claims is a suspected transit point for American missiles.
